"Nagamit mo na ang Martial Arts mo?" That's the first question I've got from a friend while I'm taking my breakfast one day. I'm hesitant on my initial response. So I enumerated top 5 applications of Martial Arts in everyday life.

1. Daily Morning Exercise

Katas are great morning routine in the morning. One Kata will only last for about 2-3 minutes. Here is a sample KATA from Rika Usama of Japan. This also sharpens your movements and refines your form as a Karate practitioner.

Meditation clears, prepares, and regain the strength of your mind. It helps you to focus on the tasks coming your way.

This also helps me to build my willpower to finish the tasks at hand. This also calms my body and relaxes my mind. And this is my way of connecting to Something bigger than myself that we call God.

Kahit sino pwede mag-practie ng meditation. Conquering your mind is a great experience - a habit that takes courage, determination, and mental toughness.

3. Auditing of thoughts

Thought Auditing is essential specially if you are into something big. Minsan, maraming bagay ang hindi natutuloy if we think negative things about it. Sa iba, it's a pros and cons way of thinking, but to others, its a detrimental kind of thought process. Toxic thoughts like major rejections during discussion with customer, yung mapahiya during your presentation, yung may magawa kang pagkakamali sa work, matalo sa isang competition, or just in a simple discussion.

If we filter the negative thoughts we have and work on it little by little we can live more and enjoy life better. Just imagine if you will always think na kapag sasakay ka ng eroplano, it will crash. A lot of great opportunities abroad will be put into waste.

For martial artists, some examples of negative thoughts are breaking the shin bone kapag sinipa mo ang iyong opponent, just like what happened to Anderson Silva nung nabali yung shin nya when he kicked his opponent during their bout in UFC. Just imagine if you are engulfed by that negative thought, you'll find difficult time to decide kung kelan ka sisipa.

So the key is to delete that negative thought through thought audit. Never allow yourself to be in a position or moment thinking of a toxic idea. Or if you caught yourself into it, say to yourself "No! No! No!". Little by little, you can delete the that negative thought.

4. Daily Dose of Self-Confidence

Confidence is also one of the great side effects of Martial Arts, the flames are walking onto your skin like a super saiyan :-). Confidence is built thru small periods of habitual winnings and progress. Micro-habit. You could learn how to talk to someone with authority, or with your Sensei and you learn how to strip the legend out of anybody. You could see the human side of others and disregard the legend that lives within him while maintaining the respect he deserves. You sustain more trust in yourself and in your capability and can express yourself as you would like to be perceived by others.

5. A Martial Artist's Spirit to Fight and Move On

Hindi sumusuko at lumalaban hanggang sa huli. Failure is also seen as lesson and has the ability to come back stronger. This kind of mentality helps people to achieve more in their life. The more experiences you get the wiser you become, and that is coming from the spirit to soldier on even in toughest time.

You see, not everything in Martial Arts is based on aggressive behavior, it also teaches you subtle and significant skills that you can use in your everyday life. Fighting will be the last resort. But if you are good enough, you probably don't need to fight to win.
